ANCHOR
Renovation of Minpu Riverside Abandoned Train and Ferry Industrial Site.
Project type: Riverside Landscape Public Space
Area: 9000㎡
Work: Graduation design project
School: SIVA
The project is situated along the Huangpu River at a historic industrial site, formerly the “Wu-Zhou Line” ferry hub, crucial in Shanghai’s shift from an industrial center to a modern city. As the city’s focus moved, this area became an unplanned space, now drawing many visitors and locals. Shanghai’s government plans to transform this area into a major hub for strategic sports and cultural activities. The global focus on preserving and reusing industrial heritage is mirrored in China’s efforts to safeguard factories, docks, and railways. These sites not only document China’s industrial history but also offer opportunities for cultural heritage, tourism, and urban renewal. Our project aims to balance historical preservation with sustainability by renovating, extending, and adaptively reusing the site. We will create a waterfront public space that blends landscape, architecture, and interiors, maintaining its historical value while adding new economic and social benefits. This revitalized space will connect past and present, integrating sightseeing, entertainment, leisure, and commerce.
